The Green Island Tourism Project works to ensure quality of life on the Island whilst balancing the Island economy with its main assets – the environment and the Island’s unique way of life.

  • Support and expand the local economy and Island culture
  • Improve residents' quality of life

'Oaks' Wins The Green Island Gold Award

The top-level award is the Gold standard; this indicates excellent environmental performance across all ten awards criteria. A typical Gold standard business will have a strong environmental marketing element, have a high percentage of energy reduction measures, have reduced water usage significantly, have a waste recycling policy in place, will have a strong focus on local produce and have addressed applicable wildlife issues.

When you visit Oaks you will find that all new wood used to refurbish the house is Forest Stewardship Accredited and the property is as energy efficient as possible with double glazing and insulation. Our gas is purchased from an ethical supplier and there are facilities for recycling and composting. Edible plants (like fresh herbs to enhance your cooking) grow in the garden and information about local food, drink and public transport is available. We want to ensure that you have an enjoyable holiday and have the opportunity to also live lightly whilst you are with us.
